Girls in STEM
COVID-19 NOTICE: April 24, 2020. In an effort to slow the transmission of COVID-19, U of T has suspended all in-person classes and recommended cancelling all discretionary events until further notice. As such, Math Plus summer programs are suspended until further notice. Currently, we are running online math courses for grades 1 to 12, please refer to the page Online Courses for more details.
- Are you a girl in Grades 6, 7, 8 or 9?
- Are you interested in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields?
- Are you a parent who knows a girl in Grades 6, 7, 8 or 9 who you would like to encourage to consider research or a career in the STEM fields?
This club is open to girls in grades 6 - 9. It meets on the first Saturday of every month, 10am - 1pm, starting on October 5, 2019, and ending with the Girls in STEM Conference on May 2, 2020. The exact dates are Oct 5, Nov 2, Dec 7, Jan 11, Feb 1, Mar 7, and Apr 4 (with the conference on May 2). Students enrolled in this program will have monthly workshops and seminars that will engage them in various topics in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
If you have participated in the program in previous years, we do not encourage re-enrollment as some workshop topics may repeat from previous years.
Workshops will be led by female members of various departments throughout the year and most will have a hands-on component to them. The materials covered in the class will be separate from standard school curriculum and pre-requisite knowledge is not required.
For students wishing to take part in both the Fall/Spring Saturday Math Clubs and this program a discount code can be provided for the overlapping classes (please contact us prior to registering to inquire).
The cost for this program is $200. Limited BURSARIES are available.
Each year the Department of Mathematics, in partnership with other University of Toronto departments and industry partners, offers an annual Girls in STEM conference.
The next conference will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2020.
The conference runs from 9:00am - 3:00pm and will feature speakers and workshops from across the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
The program is only open to girls currently in Grades 6, 7, 8 or 9 and spaces are limited. This program is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
